On the eve of the Cranky Beer Blog (AKA BeerCrank.ca) reaching its 50,000th visitor within the next day or two, I thought it was time to chat about something I've been excited for since Autumn 2009 to do as a project, but never had the resources or time to actually accomplish:

Ever since I was a young child, my mom would always buy me an advent calendar during Christmas season (December). An advent calendar is a cardboard box of chocolates that acts as a bit of a random guessing game of a calendar, to count down the days to Christmas. The quality of the chocolates deteriorated every year but to this very day, my mom still buys me an advent calendar of chocolates.. she hasn't missed a single year yet since I was an infant in the 80s!

This time, I've decided to take my own take on the advent calendar: The Beer Advent Calendar where I drink a beer per day until Christmas eve. The majority (minus three) of the beers came from beer trades with some amazing friends - this was one of the reasons why I was so deliberant to hold on to my hoard for as long as I did.

The beer goes from Winnipeg to all the way to New Zealand, Imperial Stouts to wheat ales and beers all over the beer flavour map.

This has been in the planning for over a year now, since October 2011, in fact and I finally get to actually do it!

I hope you enjoy my beer advent calendar and I think you should do your own version of it, randomly pick 24 beers at a beer store, wrap them up, sharpie each day of the month (mix them up for a bit excitement) and have a blast!
